As part of the “First Lecture Event” organized by our Faculty, an online seminar titled Trade Relations Between Turkey and the United Kingdom was held on Thursday, 26 February 2026.
The event was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Bağış, a faculty member of the Department of International Trade and Finance. The guest speaker was Şahin Vahap Fırat, Founder and President of the Turkish-Scottish Chamber of Commerce.
The program addressed the historical development of trade relations between Turkey and the United Kingdom, the new trade dynamics that emerged in the post-Brexit period, sectoral areas of cooperation, and investment opportunities. Particular emphasis was placed on trade in services, technology investments, the importance of logistics networks, and strengthening institutional cooperation between the two countries.
As the founder of the UK-based McAga Group, Şahin Vahap Fırat also shared his entrepreneurial experiences with students and offered valuable advice to young individuals aspiring to enter international markets. Highlighting the importance of the commercial and cultural bridges established between Turkey and Scotland, he underlined the decisive role of networking and building trust-based relationships in global trade.
The event, held online via Zoom, attracted strong interest from students and concluded with a Q&A session.
